![]() To turn it into a mocktail, just switch out the tequila for an extra cup of apple juice! How many standard drinks are in a margarita? Starring sparkling apple juice, it’s the perfect balance of sweetness, tartness and booziness. If you’re more of an apple fan, this crisp frozen apple margarita is right up your alley. It’s pretty and pink, delicious and also a super fun way to enjoy the classic margarita, with a twist. We even cooked down fresh strawberries over the stove to create our very own super pink-coloured margarita mix.Ĭall us crazy, but we’ve even made a margarita inspired by our favourite lolly… musk sticks! Yep, we created a musk stick margarita by soaking the lollies in tequila for up to 48 hours, and pairing it with Alize Rosé liqueur, lime juice, and a few other ingredients. With a hint of fizz and home-made strawberry syrup, this strawberry margarita is a little sweeter than the traditional recipes, making it thanks to the addition of lemonade, we’ve taken the traditional ingredients of a margarita (we’re talking tequila, lime, triple sec and sugar) and turned it into a sweet, fruity and aesthetically pink beverage. While we love classic traditional-style margaritas, our food team has spent a lot of time experimenting with margarita recipes over the past few years. If you want to add some punchiness to this recipe, you can add a light sprinkle of cayenne pepper (be careful because a little goes a long way), a slice of jalapeno, or even adding chilli flakes and salt to the rim of your margarita glass. We personally love the brightness it gives the drink! If I like spicy margaritas, what can I add to it? So, if you’re keen on adding salt to this margarita recipe, feel free to dip the rim of the glass in it. But if it’s too overwhelming for you, salt can occasionally help eliminate the intensity of the bitterness. Also, sometimes margaritas can be a little bitter, which many people love. It intensifies the sweetness of the other ingredients, and even the flavours of the tequila and triple sec. But why? Well, the same reason that you may add salt to some of your favourite desserts. Why is a margarita served with salt?Īlthough our margarita recipe doesn’t call for the addition of salt, it’s super common to add it to traditional margaritas. If you’re looking for an alcohol-free margarita, this lime spritzer quenches our zesty cravings, minus the booze. Typically it is on the stronger side of the cocktail spectrum due to the base being primarily tequila and Cointreau (or Triple Sec), with less non-alcoholic liquids than say a cosmopolitan or gin and tonic. How much alcohol is in a margarita?ĭepending on the recipe you follow, a margarita can vary in alcohol content. From here, tequila can also be aged in oak barrels for at least 60 days, which creates a deeper colour and a richer flavour profile. It’s then distilled, which creates a clear liquid called tequila blanco. The leaves are removed from the plant and the core, which is called piña, is cooked, mashed and fermented to create alcohol. The main alcohol in margaritas is tequila, but where does it come from? Tequila is actually made from blue agave plants, which is native to Mexico. Cointreau also has a higher alcohol content, yet has a smoother finish than Triple Sec. ![]() Cointreau on the other hand, has more of a balanced sweet and bitter flavour. Firstly, Triple Sec is more syrupy than Cointreau, giving it a sweeter, more intense orange taste. Is Triple Sec the same as Cointreau?Ĭointreau and Triple Sec are quite similar, which is why both work so well in margaritas. We like having fun with what we put in our margaritas sometimes too, like that famous musk stick variation and even this green apple lolly margarita. ![]() The ratio of ingredients is typically 2 parts tequila, 2 parts triple sec, 1 part lime juice, but recipes vary depending on preference. Sometimes recipes call for other additions like simple syrup for a touch of sweetness, and salt on the rim of the glass (yep, it’s not part of the original margarita recipe but our drinks experts think it totally makes it). Margaritas are usually only made of three ingredients: tequila, triple sec, and lime juice. ![]() ![]() ![]() It also comes with a basic backup configuration software in the form of the Seagate Dashboard. It appears that the ST4000LM0016 uses five platters with a 800GB/platter design to achieve the capacity point. In any case, CrystalDiskInfo provides a lot of information about the internal drive. User reports based on the raw drive indicate that the thickness comes in around 15mm, which should be OK for NAS units and other applications. Suffice to say that this drive will not fit most notebooks (it is not thin enough). Information about this drive is currently sparse on Seagate's website. The Backup Plus Portable 4TB USB 3.0 drive internally carries a Seagate/Samsung Momentus ST4000LM016 drive. Seagate recently launched the Backup Plus Portable 4TB USB 3.0 drive based on one of the first 4TB 2.5" drives in the market. 2TB USB 3.0 drives have been around for some time now, but the 4TB mark in the portable 2.5" form factor had only been achieved with dual drives and external power. From the perspective of that market, bus-powered external hard drives (2.5") are hard to beat. Unfortunately, the cost per GB is still too high for the average consumer. They have slowly been increasing in capacity too, and we even had a 1TB portable SSD from Samsung earlier this year. Flash drives and external SSDs can take advantage of the high-speed nature of the interface. The rise in popularity of USB 3.0 has enabled a large number of high-speed bus-powered storage devices. ![]() ![]() ![]() Brown averaged 1.5 steals despite his ordinary movement skills. ![]() ![]()
![]() ![]() From our perspective, it’s an age old cat and mouse game, whose predatory danger has likely been passed down through generations in our mythical stories. If nothing else, if we’re within the size range of prey they eat, we could be on the menu. Given that large constrictors like this have been living with humans for thousands of years, it means the largest of these snakes probably could have it out for us. Now consider the fact that at 23’ these snakes can be man eaters and that they can get upwards of 30+ feet long. It’s a bit like putting a giant tourniquet on your whole body. If these snakes cut off blood supply quickly, the prey die much faster. When you crunch the numbers, the limiting factor is the flow of blood to the brain, not how long you can survive without breathing. By placing pressure sensors inside its next meal (a large pig), we could see that the suffocation myth was busted. ![]() We were able to test a massive Sulawesi reticulated python in a lab setting. ![]() In the show, I worked with physiologists who studied the power of these snakes. Oddly, it also lists the largest one ever caught in Celebes, Indonesia in 1902 at 32.75 feet – even though many scientists are skeptical of this historical report and think the longest ever may be a bit smaller. The Guinness book of world records lists the largest officially measured living snake as Medusa – 25 ft 2 in. However, no snake has been officially measured that long, and large specimens of these species are becoming increasingly rare due to urbanisation and illegal poaching for the pet trade. Biologists tend to agree that this snake could reach lengths of around 30 feet. The reticulated python does, however, hold the record for the world’s longest snake living today. ![]() They’re not the heaviest either – anacondas claim that title at over 500 pounds. As NTU is located close to forested areas, it is not surprising to find wildlife on the campus however students are being urged to remain vigilant when walking on the sidewalk near the bushes. How do we measure the biggest snake? Reticulated pythons are not the longest snake to have ever lived – the extinct Titanoboa currently takes that trophy at over 42’ long. The cobra was spotted again later in the day, perhaps in search of its missing meal. Both species are indigenous to Singapore. While reticulated pythons prefer a diet of mammals and occasionally birds, king cobras are known for their snake-eating behaviour, so it’s likely that the cobra was the attacker in this case. The python was later captured by NTU pest control officers, and appeared sluggish after the battle. The animals battled it out for about 20 minutes before the cobra slithered off into some nearby bushes. The python was shorter at an estimated 1.5-2 metres (5-6 feet) long.Ī large crowd gathered to watch the wrestling snakes, some sneaking dangerously close so they could snap photos. According to graduate student Abhishek Ambede, who witnessed the battle, the cobra was the longer of the two snakes, and looked to be about 3.6 metres (about 12 feet) in length. Bystanders managed to capture images and footage of the snakes as they battled it out near the university’s Research Techno Plaza (RTP). ![]() ![]() ![]() While working on these publications, this famous comic book artist created the character of Abslom Daak.
